Drew Carter signed today to a one year, $2 million deal. Seems to me we really got a discount on the guy. He has good size and speed and performed well in Carolina. Why might he come so cheap? The answer could be he has injury history himself or as Rotoworld put it, he has trouble doing the little things. Lofton should be able to mentor him and get him on the right track. If he is a big time player that just needs to work on the little things you have to like this deal. One year deal says to the player: Prove your worth. Prove you can do the little things. So Carter will be focused on doing just that.
You’ve got to love his hair too.
Carter’s speed should stretch the field from the slot and force the safeties to stay back instead of jump the run. Should open up holes for the running backs.
We didn’t overspend here, but regardless of whether we overspent, if we win games it is moot. Doesn’t matter.
So while everybody should concede that we overpaid a lot of these free agents, you can’t complain that we are filling our holes. If even half of them pay off, I consider the moves as a whole good.
Bottom Notes (Because they don’t deserve to be side notes or on top):
Broncos fired GM Ted Sundquist after 16 years on the job. I guess we aren’t the only team with some in-house trouble. So…they hired our ex-suedo GM, do we hire their GM in some capacity? Probably not, but it would be funny as hell.
